Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB/CAB) is a organic compound derived from coconut oil and dimethylaminopropylamine. CAPB is available as a viscous pale yellow solution and it is used as a surfactant in personal care products. The name reflects that the major part of the molecule, the lauric acid group, is derived from coconut oil. Cocamidopropyl betaine to a significant degree has replaced cocamide DEA.
This product is a zwitterionic surfactant with excellent stability under both acidic and alkaline conditions. It exhibits cationic and anionic properties respectively. It is often used in combination with anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants with good compatibility. Low irritation, easy to dissolve in water, stable to acid and alkali, rich in foam, strong detergency, with excellent thickening, softness, sterilization, antistatic and hard water resistance. Can significantly improve the softness, conditioning and low temperature stability of washing products.
